Now that the FDA and CDC/ACIP have announced their approval of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine booster for children ages 5-11 years old, we will be administering the booster here at Healthy Kids Pediatrics. Eligible children can receive the single-dose booster 5 months after they have completed the primary series of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine. If your child has recently had a confirmed case of Covid-19 it is safe to get the vaccine booster when the isolation period after acute infection is completed.
While it has largely been the case that Covid-19 tends to be less severe in children than adults, the Omicron wave has seen more kids getting sick with the disease and being hospitalized, and children may also experience longer term effects, even following initially mild disease. Being vaccinated and boosted is especially important as new variants of Covid-19 emerge. More contagious strains can spread quickly and infect more children. Being fully vaccinated and booster helps protect kids from serious disease and hospitalization from Covid.
In an effort to plan accordingly regarding staffing and supplies we are asking all interested families to please contact HKP via the patient portal. Please include the number of children you would like vaccinated and their ages.
